Changu lake is one of the best places I have ever been to.. the view is awesome and locals are very very helpful.they really respect your privacy and are very honest. The temperature is freezing and we visited on 30th Jan. The place has awesome view of the mighty Himalayas and in one word it is just FANTASTIC. the trip from gangtok to change lake is bit challenging, but road is being repaired in stretches. It takes around 3 hours grom agntok town to change lake(with one break for tea/snacks).Temperature is freezing and please have enough woolens ..the chilly winds really makes the feel temperature low. There are army men to help tourists. It was evident from the smiling faces of army jawans that we tourists are their only short time friends. The place is perfect for family.

Yumthang is a valley in the high reaches of the Himalayas. It is not just any destination. All the way to it, Sikkim spreads her natural beauty. An ideal picture postcard scenery, is reminscent of Swiss and Austrian Alps. Add to that a generous splurge of rhododendrons and you are at Singba Rhododendron Reserve. The valley floor is covered with wild, yellow flowers and violet Primulas, while the hill-sides are vivid and glowing with multi-coloured rhododendrons. Then we reached Chungthang, a small habitation in a cup-like valley, surrounded on all sides by towering hills. The main attraction of this place is that it is at the confluence of two valleys and two main rivers of North Sikkim: the Lachung Cho and the Lachen Cho, the latter commonly known as Teesta. Shortly before Yumthang we saw people taking a dip in a hot spring of the river.

planned the entire trip to North Sikkim around Yumthang because I had read about the riot of colors in the valley of flowers- the Yumthang Valley! You can see beautiful bold color flowers' laden trees on the drive from Lachung to Yumthang but the beauty of Yumthang is God's idea of painting in a good mood! We heard that the flowers were much lesser this year because of the preceding earthquake but the land covered with rhododendrons seemed lavender from far, the gush of the teesta, the green mountains covered with white cottony clouds and many many black bulls and the tingling of their bells- a treat to all senses and the highlight of our 9 day trip to North Sikkim!

we were close to lake by 5-6 miles and had to return back as it started snowing..but the journey up the hill to the lake was worthy.. on the way we had to stop and wait to try our luck..and alas, it started snowing there.. the army units on the way are doing a a stupendous job of maintaining the place..go there atleast half way..
